Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of Recoup, an iOS app that tracks prices on items you've bought or are considering buying, and alerts you to price drops within a return or price-match window. By using Recoup, you agree to these Terms. Recoup is currently developed and operated by an individual developer, not a company.

1. The Service

Recoup tracks publicly listed prices on retailer websites and notifies you of drops, so you can pursue a price match, adjustment, or return with the retailer directly. Recoup is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any retailer mentioned in the app. Whether a retailer honors a price match or return is entirely up to that retailer's own policies — Recoup has no role in that transaction.

2. Price Data Is Reference Only

Prices shown in Recoup are fetched automatically and may be delayed, inaccurate, or out of date by the time you check — sale windows, regional pricing, and out-of-stock items can all cause discrepancies. Always confirm the current price directly with the retailer before acting on it. Recoup is provided for personal, informational use and is not a guarantee of any specific price or savings.

3. Eligibility & Accounts

• You need a compatible iOS device and an App Store account to install Recoup.
• The app works via an anonymous account by default; linking Sign in with Apple is optional and only used to preserve your data across devices/reinstalls.
• You're responsible for keeping your device and Apple ID secure, since anyone with access to either can access your Recoup data.

4. Subscriptions & Payments

• Recoup offers a free tier and paid tiers (Pro, Max) with higher usage limits, plus an optional one-time Founding purchase. Current pricing is shown in the app before purchase.
• All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment card details.
• Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel anytime in your Apple ID subscription settings — not in the app, per App Store requirements.
• Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's own refund policy; we cannot issue refunds directly.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use Recoup to violate any retailer's terms of service or to attempt fraud (e.g. fabricating a price match or return claim);
• Attempt to reverse engineer, scrape, or overload Recoup's backend services;
• Use the app for any unlawful purpose.

We may suspend or terminate access for accounts that abuse the service.

6. Your Content

Receipt photos, product links, and other content you upload remain yours. You grant us the limited right to process that content (including via Google's Gemini API, see our Privacy Policy) solely to provide the app's features to you. You're responsible for making sure you have the right to upload any content you submit.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

Recoup is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy of price data, uninterrupted availability, or fitness for a particular purpose. Store integrations depend on third-party websites that can change or block access at any time without notice.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Recoup and its developer are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including missed price drops, denied price matches, or losses from relying on price data shown in the app.

9. Termination

You may stop using Recoup and delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

10. Changes

We may update these Terms or the app's features over time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above; continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
